Moanalua

The community of Moanalua lies northwest of Honolulu International Airport and east of Pearl Harbor in a valley on the leeward side of the Koolau Mountain Range.

The sprawling Tripler Army Medical Center is a general medical and surgical center, the largest military hospital in the Asian and Pacific Rim region. It’s the only Army medical center not located on the US mainland. It was established in 1907 and built on Moanalua Ridge in 1948 overlooking the neighborhoods of Salt Lake and Moanalua. The distinctive coral pink color of the structure was borrowed from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki, where US military personnel spent their time off during World War II.

Moanalua Gardens, a 24 acre privately owned park, is famous for their monkey pod trees which have been featured in Japanese Hitachi commercials.
